Food Find: The Granola Bar of Westport

Those who know me well know that I’ve been a huge fan of The Granola Bar since before they opened their doors last December. Things have not changed and although it is impossible for me to have every meal there, I wish I could. Why? Because it is the food I want to eat paired with the best service around.

The name is slightly deceptive. Yes, the granola is the reason co-owners Dana & Julie joined forces in the first place (their OATS Granola is sold at Whole Foods, Fresh Market and other great stores). However, the menu encompasses way more than the granola (which is delicious by the way). Customers with certain dietary restrictions and allergies have no fear. They get that there are those of us who want vegan, paleo, carb free, gluten free, dairy free, soy free or peanut free food.

A few of Fit CT’s personal favorites (it is hard to choose, everything is delish!)

The menu is divided into categories that include yogurt creations, breakfast, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, avocado, salads, smoothies and a wide selection of coffee and tea drinks.

Some of the popular menu items are the Shrek Smoothie (spinach, kale, banana, apple, almond butter & almond milk), the Mountain Blend smoothie (banana, chocolate whey protein, almond butter & almond milk), the Dana breakfast wrap (egg whites, spinach, avocado, turkey bacon on a wheat wrap) and the Naughty Cobb Salad (chicken, egg, feta, peppers, tomato, cucumber & maple-bacon granola).  There is also an option to create your own salad bowl.

My favorite salad?  It’s a tie between the Omega and the Upper West Side.

The Omega Salad (that's pistachio crusted salmon!)

The Omega Salad (pistachio crusted salmon, strawberries, sunflower seeds, goat cheese on a bed of fresh spinach)

Upper West Side Salad

If Dana could have one thing on the menu it would be the avocado grilled cheese.

The under 20 set favors the Challahback! panini.

Most popular coffee drink? The Nutella latte.

Why do I love TGB? You can get almond milk with your coffee. They have the BEST salads and paleo chocolate chunk cookies. Quinoa, hummus and roasted vegetables anyone? Yes please. A whole section of the menu devoted to the glorious avocado? Dana, Julie & Chef Jes have us figured out.

The reason I will LOVE the Granola Bar forever?

Because you can call them the day before your daughter’s 7th birthday and request a chocolate cream pie (not on the menu) and they will absolutely have it for you the next day. 🙂
