Food Find: Organic Pharmer, Rye Brook, NY

I recently crossed state lines to try the Organic Pharmer in Rye Brook, NY.  I had heard the buzz since its opening about 4 months ago and I’m sorry it took me so long to get there.  Since my first visit I’ve been back 3x in the last week.  😮  IT’S THAT GOOD.

Organic Pharmer takes healthy eating to a whole new level.  Customers come from NYC, Fairfield and all over Westchester County to visit this brainchild of an integrated pharmacist, an MD and macrobiotic chef who have come together to create 100% organic, healing and delicious food.  The Organic Pharmer is unique in that the principles of functional medicine support every item on the menu.  Their motto:  “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”  All products offered are free of gluten, dairy, soy, corn and egg and are low in sugar.

The menu is diverse and encompasses way more than their 1, 3, 5 and weekend juice cleanses.  Soul Cyclers and SLT’ers finish their workouts and head next door to Organic Pharmer for raw & detox salads, smoothies, large leafy salads, seasonal soups, breakfast items and snacks.

On my three visits I’ve had the opportunity to try many items on the menu…

I could eat my weight in dehydrated kale and carrot chips.

The mung bean fettucine with kale pesto is something I grab every time I go in.

Feeling a cold coming on?  Nip it in the bud with an “Immunity” shot which consists of a delicious blend of lemon, ginger, raw honey, echinacea extract and an infusion of elderberry and elderflower.   My 6 year old daughter and her friends even wanted more.  (yours truly thinks it would be great combined with vodka at cocktail hour)

The Pharmer’s bread is to die for.  It’s dense and nutty topped with almond butter or hummus makes an amazing meal.

The black bean brownie (190 calories) didn’t survive long enough for a full on photo.

The Alpha Green is a very popular choice of juice.  At 90 calories it contains kale, romaine, parsley, dandelion, fennel, burdock, celery, cucumber, lemon, mint and nettles infusion.  Let’s admit it, those of us that own juicers know how labor intensive juicing can be!  Let Organic Pharmer do the juicing for you…

My absolute favorite, we’re talking the one thing that I would order again and again and again, the Provencale Tartine.  Zucchini, pharmers bread, olives, almond, tomato, olive oil, herbs, chic pea miso, nutritional yeast and red onion.

The Provencale Tartine, Don’t be disappointed – call ahead and ask for them to reserve one for you.

Pharmer’s Bread and crudite are the perfect compliment to their creamy hummus.  This is a perfect lunch for the kids.  My 3 couldn’t get enough of it.

The cannellini bean and kale salad is one of their top sellers.  This is on the top of my ‘try next’ list.

Another thing I cannot wait to try?  The Pharmaccino:  house-made almond milk with cold-brewed coffee, raw cacao powder, epic protein chocolate maca plus a little banana.  Not a chocolate fan?  I can vouch for their outstanding almond milk lattes.  Their coffee comes from Westchester’s only organic roaster, Coffee Labs in Tarrytown.

The space caters to those who want to grab and go.  Unfortunately there are no tables or eating in.

The only problem with the Organic Pharmer?  It’s in Rye, NY.  It’s a good thing that we can rely on delivery until they open a Westport post.
