Need to Know: The Granola Bar of Westport now serves dinner
The Granola Bar of Westport has been feeding and caffeinating Westporters for almost a year now and as they approach their 1st anniversary, co-owners Julie Levitt & Dana Noorily are giving US a gift. And that is DINNER! Yes, The Granola Bar will now be open for dinner until 9pm, Wednesday thru Saturday (don’t worry, their regular Sunday, Monday and Tuesday hours will remain unchanged).
Dana & Julie’s mission hasn’t changed; they continue to deliver fast, convenient, healthy, fresh & organic (when possible) food that, in theory, we would like to serve our families at home. As they prepare to take on the dinner crowd they are simultaneously unveiling their fall/winter menu. All of our favorites will remain but some of the new items include healthy twists on classic dishes: the perfectly seasoned Chicken Paillard salad, the Blair Waldorf salad (a la Gossip Girl), candied turkey bacon deviled eggs (so delish I could single-handedly take down a dozen). If you’re also looking for comfort food, The ‘Post Road’ sandwich (grilled cheese with brie, roasted turkey, sliced apples and apple butter on ciabatta) is over-the-top and decadent and worth every single calorie.
What am I personally looking forward to the most? Their ‘customizable’ salad, quinoa and egg scramble bowls. All wraps (such as the Thai chicken and classic chicken salads) can be made as salads or on gluten-free bread. I have been promised that the Shrek smoothie (it now comes in muffin form!!) and Omega salad will always be on the menu, whew! 😉 The new, cleverly named “Brekkie” smoothie (oatmeal, greek yogurt, banana, dates & honey) is calling my name.
The Granola Bar continues to be the only restaurant I know with a whole section of the menu dedicated to the avocado. Their top selling avocado toast and grilled cheese is still on the menu but they’ve given us a few new options. Add their perfect house cured salmon or feta and pepper? Yes please!
TGB baristas have been experimenting with drinks too and I can confirm they’ve brought us the best. I predict many customers will be driving through snow to get to their “Chai-der” (Chai and apple cider steamed together with cinnamon sugar rim) or Turkish Latte (which can be made with almond milk!)
Kids will LOVE the baked, whole wheat panko encrusted white meat chicken fingers (TGB does not have a fryer) that are served with house-baked sweet potato chips and fruit. For the kiddies that don’t dig bird? Cheese quesadillas and grilled cheese are also options. Also an option? Breakfast for dinner as their whole menu will be served all day.
You can expect seasonally nightly specials as Chef Jes likes to be spontaneous and is constantly inspired by seasonal Farmer’s Market finds. For example I recently sampled beef & veal bolognese on spaghetti squash (you won’t find traditional pasta on the menu at TGB). Traditional pasta you will not be missed!
Dana & Julie have figured out the perfect formula and that is giving us the food we want to eat combined with outstanding service. Even the pickiest eaters can find something and those with food allergies and restrictions could not find a more accommodating restaurant. Eat in, call or text ahead, grab and go.
Why do I love TGB for dinner? For the same reasons I love it for breakfast and lunch (because they make the clean, healthy food I want to eat); because they DON’T serve buttered noodles and therefore my kids will be forced to order something else, and they WILL like it. My husband can order something hearty and meaty and everyone is happy.
Dinner service begins Wednesday, November 5.
