Need to Know: Swim Seventy, Norwalk

The new year brings resolutions.  Most will incorporate living a healthier lifestyle into their plan.  Some might want to learn a new sport; others will want to lose 5 pounds.  Some may have more ambitious goals like training for a triathlon.

Fairfield County is about to gain a new, 27,000 square foot facility that will help us achieve these goals as Swim Seventy is set to open in Norwalk (just over the Westport border) on January 25.  S70’s main attraction will be its 50 meter (Olympic sized) pool, however, dig a little deeper and you will find that they will be offering a lot more.

S70’s lap swimmers and masters, competitive, and recreational swim teams will practice in their 50 meter pool.  (Recreational swim team is unique as it will cater to those children who play other sports or who don’t want to commit to the intense schedule of competitive swimmers; members can practice 1-3x a week).  Combine that with swim instruction for all levels (infant through senior) and aquatic fitness classes (think HIIT in the water – killer from what I’ve been told!) and rehabilitation and there is something for almost everyone.

In addition to the aquatic fitness classes, they have also built a 2000 square foot gym and fitness studio and will offer barre, yoga, sculpt, pilates, zumba, pre and post natal and Tabata & HIIT classes.  The plan is to offer approximately 50 classes per week.  S70 will also incorporate a dry land and sports conditioning program for their competitive swimmers.

Swim Seventy Rendering, UpstairsLooking to conquer your first triathlon in 2015?  Let USA Triathlon Level 2 coach and 5 time Ironman and Ironman World Championship qualifier Pascale Butcher guide you.  The gym will have compu-trainers and include bike storage.  Do you have a kid that likes to swim, bike and run?  She’ll have programs for children ages 7 and up too.

What I found unique is that S70 has an in-house nutritionist, Melissa Brunetti, available for coaching program  design.  The S70 founders realize that performance isn’t totally a function of your training but what fuel you put into your body too.

S70 will offer summer camps and birthday parties in addition to child watch while the parents workout.

I am truly excited for S70 to open their doors.  What’s most enticing to me?  Other than their 3 pools (olympic, instructional and endless), the facility will open at 5am (perfect for early birds and commuters), they will have a kids triathlon training program and the option of a recreational swim team.
