Food Find: Clean Slate Cookbook

It’s been awhile since I got really excited over a cookbook.  Yes, I have pre-ordered each and every one of Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa cookbooks but to find one that one ranks up there with Gourmet’s big, yellow, kitchen ‘Bible’ is one I definitely want to share.

CLEAN SLATE, A Cookbook and Guide, from the editors of Martha Stewart Living, is hand down my new favorite cookbook.  The recipes are light and clean, yet flavorful and delicious enough to satisfy the most high maintenance customers (my husband and kids!).  The recipes are simple enough to prepare for a weekday lunch or dinner.  Photos sell you on the recipes instantly.  I am eager to try each and every one.

Food Find: Outstanding in the Field by Sugar & Olives

Many of my fondest memories over the past decade revolve around food.  I am fortunate to have had the privilege of dining at award winning restaurants such as Masa, The French Laundry and Blue Hill at Stone Barns but more times than not I find myself preferring the smaller, local restaurant and food experiences versus the ‘super special occasion’ venues.

Food Find: Trader Joe’s dinner tricks

If given all the time in the world I would spend my endless days trying countless recipes from my favorite cookbooks such as Gourmet and Martha Stewart’s new Clean Slate.  But since time for cooking is a luxury and dinner always a scramble (and I’m pretty confident that is the scenario for most), I have come to rely on some Trader Joe’s staples to help me in a pinch.

Here are my current faves:

Food Find: Embody Fitness Gourmet, Darien & Westport

I sound like a broken record saying “eating right is 70% of the weight picture”, but it’s true.  It’s the part I personally struggle with the most but I know that in order to see results you need to eat a clean, unprocessed diet that makes you feel good.  With long, cold winter days it is so easy to slip into a processed, sugary storm and after the Superbowl and subsequent snow day I wanted out.

Happy 2015!  I hope your New Year is off to a healthy start.

I’m confident that I’m not the only one whose holiday season spun a little bit out of control.  With the new year here I am determined to cut out the sugar and other garbage that infiltrated our home over the last month.  This is not only for my benefit but for my kids too who have had more than their fair share of sweets.

Food Find: Healthy Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash & Quinoa

The polar vortex turned up here in CT yesterday morning and with its arrival, I am craving something warm, hearty and filling, but yet still healthy (to counteract my past weekend birthday alcohol consumption).  Thanks to Pinterest I stumbled upon this outstanding stew form the  ‘Cookin’ Canuck‘ last year and the recipe can be found here.  I have since made it several times because it incorporates some of my favorite ingredients:  butternut squash, quinoa, black olives, tomatoes, need I say more?

Need to Know: The Granola Bar of Westport now serves dinner

The Granola Bar of Westport has been feeding and caffeinating Westporters for almost a year now and as they approach their 1st anniversary, co-owners Julie Levitt & Dana Noorily are giving US a gift.  And that is DINNER!  Yes, The Granola Bar will now be open for dinner until 9pm, Wednesday thru Saturday (don’t worry, their regular Sunday, Monday and Tuesday hours will remain unchanged).

Food Find: Favorite Costco Buys

It’s no secret, suburban moms (and dads!) have a love affair with Costco.  It’s embarrassing to admit but more times than socially acceptable we find ourselves comparing notes on our favorite things from Costco.  We all live in the burbs now and have ample storage for their items but what we find is that we all buy different things.  Here are my favorite items that I buy over and over again and cannot live without:

Food Find: Organic Pharmer, Rye Brook, NY

I recently crossed state lines to try the Organic Pharmer in Rye Brook, NY.  I had heard the buzz since its opening about 4 months ago and I’m sorry it took me so long to get there.  Since my first visit I’ve been back 3x in the last week.  😮  IT’S THAT GOOD.

Food Find: Belta’s Farmstand & My favorite gazpacho recipe

Happy end of summer!

I had intended to take the month of August off but I have some seriously time sensitive information that I must share…

I wait all year for tomato season and we are smack dab in the middle of it.  I’ve gushed about my CSA at Belta’s farm before and I must do it again as their tomatoes are out of this world!  Headline:  YOU CAN PURCHASE THESE TOMATOES AT THEIR FARMSTAND and do NOT need to be in their CSA to get these beautiful tomatoes.
